FSAE Steering Wheel
Project to design a simulation driven lattice structure while complying with ergonomic requirements, electronics housing requirements, along with FSAE and Formula Hybrid technical regulations.
Surfacing in Solidworks
Simulation and Generative Design in nTopology
Subcomponents designed in Onshape
Final product fabricated via MJF with the help of Desktop Metals in action at FH+E 2023
It held up the rain!
Steering Wheel Body
Original "concept" renders for pitching of the concept to Formlabs. The team didn't have access to any SLS or MJF printers so the renders were used when reaching out for sponsorships and manufacturing assistance.
The clear electronics enclosure cover is modular allowing for quick swapping of buttons, button placement, and allowing for the wheel to be reused between two different vehicles. The gasket allows the PCB's inside to be protected against water.
Update: This wheel has now being used in its second year of competition and has successfully passed multiple water ingress tests!
Paddle Subassembly
Subassembly of a modular "paddle shifter" designed to be machined on a 4 axis machine.
Designed in two halves that sandwich a switch, the
