Functional Packaging: Flower Bouquet
I was gifted a bouquet of flowers and but didn't know what to do with them because I didn't have a vase! So I designed giftable flower packaging that comes with its own vase.
"Packaging" and Display Mode
This project was explicitly designed for use as a gift and thus avoided the scale of large bouquets. Use cases include as wedding favors/decor and as gifts for smaller occasions such as for school teachers during teacher appreciation week. This meant that the design of the packaging had to be suitable for display in stores as well. A flat design was ultimately chosen as it could easily be displayed on walls within a store and allowed for a "backdrop" to be provided for the flowers.
Disassembly
The flowers are attached to the packaging via twine. A focus was placed on using natural materials to maximize sustainability and lean into the natural feeling that is provided by the flowers. A slip knot is first pulled to release the know before unraveling the twine.
Assembly
After untying the flowers and removing them from the front face of the package, the user simply pulls on the string to tighten the string which causes the vase to begin standing up. Once tight, the tie a knot and the vase is not structurally sound and ready for flowers to be reinserted from the top. A small jar of water can be placed under the vase to provide the flower with water.
